Ongole: Participate in social service activities, students told
Ongole: The NSS department of the Acharya Nagarjuna University, Ongole Campus, distributed certificates to the students who had completed two years of service and students who have participated in the special camp and regular camps, on Tuesday.
The NSS program officer Dr Harsha Preetham Dev presided over the program and said that the NSS cadets should be continuing social service in life to get recognition. He said that Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders are also known to the society through their social work and advised the cadets to participate in the NSS programs on child marriages, gender issues, dowry, fitness, tobacco, substance abuse, adventure, AIDS, water, literacy, national integration, disaster management, environmental enrichment and others actively.
The chief guest AKTPU OSD Dr KVN Raju said that students should also take a lead in social service through which they would help a large number of people directly and indirectly. He advised them to take inspiration from the NSS motto, Not me but you, and address social issues with knowledge. He said that skilled people are required in society and advised the students to enhance their qualifications.
Dr G Somasekhara said that the students must be capable of doing environment production awareness, participate in health awareness programs, literacy programs, community programs.
Dr P Venkata Rao, Prof of Social Work said that the NSS certificates would be very much helpful to the students in the future. Another teacher R Srinivas compared NSS cadets with the army soldiers and said that their voluntary service is also a kind of service to the nation.
