Nellore: Minister for Water Resources Dr P Anil Kumar Yadav denied allegations made by the TDP leaders on the alleged irregularities in the allocation of irrigation tenders.

He addressed the media here on Sunday and refuted the allegations made by the Opposition leaders saying that the State government was going for reverse tenders on various projects only to get commissions from the contractors.

The Minister said some leaders were spreading false propaganda with regard to the reverse tendering process. He asked whether the officials had threatened any contractor or disqualified them, or accepted tenders at excess amount.

He wondered why the Opposition leaders were making baseless allegations against the government. "We are inviting tenders and accepting only at lesser amount thus the government is saving public money.

Recently, we invited tenders in Kavali and received at 26 pc less. It was earlier allocated at 2 pc excess. Where these leaders have gone while the contractors were quoting excess amount earlier," he asked.

He also said that they were going to invite CEEP works for Rs 80 crore where they were quoted at excess amount when the TDP government called works for Rs 360 crore. They have invited O&M works for Rs 19 crore and finally received tenders for Rs 14 crore bringing down expenditure by Rs 5 crore, he pointed out.

"Opposition leaders are making comments without verifying facts. I ask them to stop the mud-slinging against the State government," the Minister said. Further, he said that they were planning three flyovers at various places in the city and were sending a letter to the Centre for approval.

He visited many divisions in the city on Sunday and interacted with people. He assured that they wouldn't shift people residing on the canal bunds immediately and rehabilitate them only after making alternative arrangements.

He said they were planning to plant saplings from Dec 21 in connection with the birthday of the Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He garlanded the statue of Potti Sriramulu along with the Collector Seshagiri Babu, SP Bhaskar Bhushan and other party leaders.
