Pig catching MCT staff face resistance from breeders
Tirupati: There have been clashes between stray pig breeders and municipal corporation public health staff in the city for the past some days. It may be noted that in the wake up of spreading of dengue and other fevers in the city, Municipal Commissioner PS Girisha, about a week ago, had ordered to catch the stray pigs .
As per commissioner's orders and under the supervision of Sanitary Supervisors Goverdhan and Chenchaiah, civic body staff had started catching the stray pigs in various streets. But the pig breeders resisted the move resulting in clashes between the breeders and the civic staff.
Tension prevailed at various localities for the past two days during the catching of pigs as breeders came to the spot and abused the civic body public health staff for catching the pigs.
During the special drive, Public Health department staff are facing threat from the pig breeders. Under the conditions, Commissioner had arranged police protection to the civic body staff. So far more than 100 stray pigs were caught by the civic body staff at New Indira Nagar, SV University hostels area, beside railway tracks and some residential localities.
Speaking to The Hans India, MCT Sanitary Supervisor S Goverdhan said that , it is a special drive during rainy season to eradicate stray pigs , which were causing spreading of fevers in the city.
As per our Commissioner's order we are acting strictly on this issue, already we had given an advance warning to pig breeders for eradicating pigs, but they did not respond to our notice. This special drive would continue further, he added.
