Review meet on road safety organised: Collector

Anantapur: A review meeting on road safety under the chairmanship of District Collector S Sathyanarayana was held here on Tuesday. Addressing the officials from RTC, Roads and Buildings, Road Transport, National Highways and Police departments, the Collector said that 163 black spots vulnerable to road mishaps had been identified in the district.

Out of which, 151 spots were being treated as less vulnerable like arranging speed breakers and installation of warning boards, he stated. Sathyanarayana stated all the black spots were being made automobile and road users friendly.

The Collector asked officials concerned to make a joint inspection of black spots and take steps to reduce road mishaps. Trauma care centres are also proposed at Penukonda, Kadiri, Battalapalle and NP Kunta to extend immediate medical treatment to accident victims.

District SP Bhusarapu Sathya Yesu Babu said that most of the mishaps were occurring between 2 am and 4 am. He stressed on the need for arranging rest rooms for highway heavy vehicle drivers. Most of the mishaps were happening on the NH 44 expressway.

The SP said most of the accidents were taking place at Tapovanam in city limits. The RTA should arrange display boards warning commuters of black spots. Additional SP Choudeshwari Devi, HDP RTO Niranjan Reddy and other officials were present.
