SEC responds on violence in Guntur and Chittoor districts, transfers' collectors

The State election commissioner of Andhra Pradesh Ramesh Kumar who has held a press meet on Sunday declaring the postponement of local body elections due to corona outbreak has responded to the untoward incidents happened in Guntur and Chittoor. He said that the incidents have come to their attention and recommended for the transfer of Guntur and Chittoor district collectors and the SPs.

He also ordered an inquiry into the clashes in Tirupati, Macharla and Punganuru. The election commissioner warned of issuing new schedule for the elections in respective districts. "Attacks on women and the underprivileged are extremely distressing. Collectors have been ordered to take action against those who levelled allegations against volunteers, " SEC Ramesh Kumar said

Since the Coronavirus is fast spreading across the globe, which has its impact on two Telugu states, the state government have been alerted. In this backdrop, the state election commission has made a crucial decision on the postponement of elections for local bodies for 6 weeks.
