Veeresalingam remembered

Social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam’s portrait garlanded at a programme held under the aegis of Forum for Better Bapatla on Tuesday

Guntur: Forum for Better Bapatla secretary P Sai Babu said that social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam was one of the greatest personalities and earliest reformers in India to demand for radical changes in Telugu (Indian) society. He said the latter had a keen insight, great courage and dynamic energy. Veeresalingam fought against untruth and championed the cause of progress with vigor.

Veeresalingam's 172nd birth anniversary was celebrated on Tuesday under the aegis of Forum For Better Bapatla. His photo was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great poet. He recalled that the latter fought for education of women and remarriage of widows. SMG Girls School in-charge head master A Harnadh recalled that Vivekavardhini, a monthly journal was run by Veeresalingam to point out and criticise the ills in society.
