Vijayawada: Mangalore varsity clinch volleyball tourney

Vijayawada: Mangalore University volleyball team clinched the South Zone Inter-University Men Volleyball Tournament title with the first position, SRM University Chennai with second position, Calicut University third and Mahatma Gandhi University team secured fourth place.

District Collector Mohammd Imtiaz participated as the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the South Zone Inter University Men Volleyball Tournament and gave the prizes to the top four position of the tournament here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said winning and losing the game was a part of sport and the players should take it with sportsmen spirit and said that about 86 university teams from various places across south India participated in the tournament and tour teams won the first four positions at the end.

He said that if the players practice they can excel at the national and international level. The students should concentrate on studies as well as on sports as the government was encouraging and giving utmost priority to sports.

Krishna University Vice-chancellor YK Sundera Krishna said that the university has organised two national tournament and six university tournament. He said that there about 92 universities on South India and 86 universities took part in the volleyball tournament.

Krishna University Registrar K Krishna Reddy, KU founder vice chancellor M K Durga Prasad, Dronacharya awardee A Ramanarao, SRR&CVR college principal Velaga Joshi, tournament director M Koteswara Rao, university volleyball association president Dayakar and others were present.
