Vijayawada: Muslim Joint Action Committee (JAC) convener Shaik Muneer Ahmed demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government pass a resolution in the State Assembly against the implementation of NRC in the State. He also demanded that the Legislative Assembly pass a resolution to abrogate the CAA being implemented by Union government.

Speaking to media at the JAC office on Monday, Muneer Ahmed said that Muslims in Andhra Pradesh were in a state of confusion over the implementation of NRC and NPR. He felt the National Population Register is the first step for the NRC. He reminded that 17 states in India are opposing the NRC and CAA.

He said the State government should have give clarity on the difference between the population Census and the National Population Register (NPR).

Furthermore, Muneer Ahmed said the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was discriminatory in nature and anti-Constitutional. He demanded that the Union government should made clear announcement on implementation of NRC and strongly condemned the violence in Delhi which claimed more than 50 lives and injuring several hundred people. He alleged the BJP government is trying to portray Muslims as traitors and demanded that such acts should be desisted immediately.
