Awareness drive held on gender sensitivity at OU Arts College

Osmania University: An awareness programme on gender sensitisation was conducted at OU Arts College for students and faculty on Thursday, with focus on how 'SHE Teams' can be useful at times of crisis and distress.

Representing the 'SHE Team' N Pujitha, the Additional DCP, explained how people can reach out to the police, starting with Whats App number 94906-16555. Two other team members also interacted with the audience and prompted that a sense of trust should be built towards the team.

Dr Mamata Raghuveer, from NGO Bharosa, shared some case studies of crimes against women. She emphasised upon gender equality at domestic level and explained how pornography had been one of the main causes of such crimes. Swapnika Sridhar, Chairperson, TS League for Youth, touched upon aspects of mindset among different types of people and some chronic behaviour disorders which lead to unethical actions.

Convener of Women Empowerment Cell, University College of Arts, OU, Dr K Bharathi, Principal of University College of Arts, Prof D Ravinder and OU Registrar, Prof Ch Gopal Reddy, addressed the gatherings. They asked everyone to be aware of their surroundings. "People of all ages and backgrounds should be vocal about the issues they face and stay true and ethical in their actions," they emphasised.

Dr Bharathi, Convenor of Women Empowerment cell, University College of Arts, Osmania University, initiated the programme, requesting the audience to think individually as a responsible citizen to play their role and influence his or her immediate person in curbing the brutal incidents on women.

Prof D Ravinder Principal of University College of Arts, Osmania University, and Registrar Osmania University, Prof Ch Gopal Reddy, also addressed the gathering and asked everyone to be aware of themselves and their surroundings. People of all ages and backgrounds were advised to be vocal about the issues they face and stay true and ethical in their actions.
