Delhi Riots: LS Speaker To Decide On When Amit Shah Would Reply
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will decide on when Union Home Minister Amit Shah would reply to the adjournment notices on Delhi riots when the Lower House of Parliament reconvenes at 2 pm on Monday. Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha was adjourned amidst noisy scenes with the Opposition demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation.
In the Rajya Sabha, The Chairman of the Upper House, Venkaiah Naidu told members that a discussion on the violence which scarred the national capital would be held once peace is restored completely and normalcy returns. The Opposition had demanded an immediate discussion on the Delhi riots and sought the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha as well.
The second part of the budget session in both houses of Parliament commenced amidst noisy scenes over the Delhi riots.
Violence rocked North East Delhi claiming 46 lives and leaving more than 300 injured. The police have detained more than 880 persons and have filed 254 FIRs related to multiple violent incidents. Delhi Police have constituted two Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to probe the violence in the national capital.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sought an investigation by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar accused the BJP of orchestrating violence in the national capital after its loss in the Delhi elections. The entire Opposition appears to be united in demanding Home Minister's resignation.
