Delhi Violence: Amit Shah, NSA Ajit Doval Take Stock
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA), Ajit Doval reviewed the situation in violence-hit north-eastern Delhi on Wednesday. The Home Minister inquired about the health and recovery of DCP Shahdara, Amit Sharma who was injured in Monday clashes. He also spoke to members of the injured police officer's family.
The NSA visited several areas of NE Delhi and interacted with senior police officials. Ajit Doval also met leaders of the Muslim community and assured them of security and allayed their concerns, according to media reports. The NSA was in NE Delhi till 3.00 am, media reports said.
North-east parts of Delhi were rocked by multiple incidents of violence on Monday after a sit in by a large group of women at the Jafrabad Metro Station in the national capital. The demonstration led to a clash between pro-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters. The violence quickly got out of hand and spread to the areas of Maujpur, Bhajanpura, Seelampur and neighbouring parts.
Several Delhi Police personnel were injured in the spiralling violence and a constable, Ratanlal lost his life due to head injuries sustained in incidents of stone-pelting.
More than 13 people have been killed in violent incidents and at least 130 persons injured. Doctors at Guru Teg Bahadur GTB Hospital pointed out that many of the injured had come with gunshot wounds.
