Delhi Violence: Arvind Kejriwal Appeals For Peace
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for maintenance of peace in the national capital. He addressed the media on Tuesday morning. Violent protests have rocked the north-eastern sections of the national capital largely around Maujpur and Jafarabad areas. Even as US President Donald Trump's visit to India was underway, violence broke out in these areas as protesters resisting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those backing the Act clashed in some areas, according to media reports.
Arvind Kejriwal also said that Delhi's borders with other states needed to be sealed as there were reports of people from elsewhere coming into the capital.
The Delhi Chief Minister called upon local leaders to appeal to people from mosques and temples to maintain peace. He also told the media that he has directed officials to ensure that peace marches are conducted.
Arvind Kejriwal said that local police should be empowered to deal with rioters. He further said that he would be attending a meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.
A constable of the Delhi police, Ratanlal lost his life in stolen pelting by rioters. one of the the senior officials of Delhi police DCP Shahdara was hospitalised and is reported to be in a serious condition.
