New Delhi: Two Special Investigation Team (SITs) have been formed to probe the Delhi riots which erupted across parts of North East Delhi earlier this week. The violence which rocked northeastern parts of Delhi claimed 37 lives and left at least 200 people injured.

Special Commissioner Delhi Police (Law and Order) SN Srivastava has constantly been monitoring the situation. Police teams have been reaching out to communities and patrolling the trouble spots in the riot-affected areas.

Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa told media persons on Thursday that 48 First Information Reports (FIRs)had been filed with respect to multiple violent incidents in north-eastern Delhi. He added that normalcy had been restored in all areas and that civil supplies have now been flowing into these riot-affected areas with traffic restrictions having been removed.

The Delhi Police PRO further stated that there were fewer calls to helplines suggesting that normalcy is returning to large parts of the national capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister held a high-level meeting and also visited many of the riot-affected places. Addressing the media, Kejriwal said that the guilty should be punished regardless of party affiliation.

AAP Corporator, Tahir Hussain has been under the scanner with regard to violence in the Seelampur area. The family members of Ankit Sharma, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) official who was brutally murdered and whose body was thrown into a drain, alleged the role of the AAP corporator behind his killing. Tahir Hussain denied the allegation claiming he had been rescued by the police a day earlier.

Several television networks beamed videos of what has been described as a 'riot factory' on Tahir Hussain's terrace, with many sacks of stones and bricks, crates of petrol bombs and unidentified chemicals. Police have now sealed the premises.
