Ongole: MP YV Subbareddy received communication from the Union Minister for Information and Communications, Manoj Sinha that following the recommendations of the MP, the minister is cancelling the proposal to merge Prakasam telecom district into Guntur telecom district.
The communication said that the Prakasam telecom unit will continue to work as an independent business area and arrangements will be made for its full functionality, said a note from the MP office.
The note said that the telecom employees unions and public organisation in Prakasam district informed the MP Subbareddy that the Union government was proposing to merge the Prakasam telecom district into Guntur and explained the issues related to the merger and its adverse effect on the district.
The MP met the Union minister four times in 2017 and informed him that the Prakasam telecom circle was the third largest circle in India with 140 telephone exchanges, 279 cell towers, 30000 landline, 12000 broadband and 3 lakh GSM connections and merging Prakasam telecom circle into Guntur circle would be a great loss to the public.
