ALC lecturers go on fast
Vijayawada: The lecturers and staff of Andhra Loyola College organised a hunger strike camp against the BJP-led NDA government, demanding that the Centre grant special category status (SCS) and fulfill bifurcation promises on the college premises here on Friday.
Prof Dr G Kishore started the one day protest.
MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao visited the camp in support of the lecturers on relay fast.Speaking on the occasion, Nageswara Rao alleged that the Central government had cheated five crore people of Andhra Pradesh. He said that the Central government did not release the funds allocated in special package leaving the people to suffer. He opined that only strikes and protests would help in getting SCS and other benefits to the state for development.
The lecturers demanded recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff as per 9 and 10 schedules of bifurcation act.Lecturers organisation chairman Dr G Venkateswara Rao, secretary Dr B Venkateswara Rao, treasurer Dr V Ashok, Dr T Sri Kumar and others were present.
