Prevent sunstroke deaths in summer
District Collector Veera Pandian has asked officials concerned to formulate action plans for preventing sunstroke deaths and fevers among the daily wage labourers in the rural and urban areas. Addressing a review meeting here on Wednesday, Pandian said that the civic officials should ensure that all sanitation works were completed by 9 am.
He said that the NREGS workers should be made to complete works between 6 am and 10 am every day. For the NREGS workers, drinking water, butter milk, first-aid kit and ORS packets should be supplied. Already 1 lakh NREGS workers are presently working and the numbers were likely to swell up to 3.5 lakh.
The District Collector directed the officials to take steps and ensure that there was no water scarcity in summer. The concerned departments including Animal Husbandry have been asked to organise water tubs for cattle grazing in public areas. Departmental heads of municipalities, DRDA, DWMA, Forest, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry departments were present on the occasion.
