Vijayawada: Leaders of Opposition parties alleged that the Telugu Desam Party MP C M Ramesh was on hunger strike at Kadapa demanding that the Central government should establish steel plant only to gain political mileage.

The Opposition leaders gave a bandh call on June 29 across the State against the BJP-led NDA government for denying Kadapa Steel Plant. In this regard, a round table meeting was organised by leaders of opposition parties here on Thursday.

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna alleged that the TDP was in alliance with the BJP-led NDA government for the last four years and kept silent on the Kadapa Steel Plant issue. He blamed the TDP for keeping silent when all the opposition parties were protesting against the BJP government to establish the steel plant.

He challenged the BJP leaders to prove that they had fulfilled 85 per cent of the promises given to the State. He said that for the first time in the history of the nation, the Central government had taken back an amount of Rs 350 crore deposited in the State government’s account. He said the BJP leaders were acting as per their wish as they know that they cannot win in Andhra Pradesh.

MLC B Nageswara Rao said that the Union government must sanction the steel plant to Kadapa to create employment to the unemployed youth of the State. He urged the Union government to treat all the States equally. YSRCP leader V Srinivas, Jana Sena Party advisor Madasu Gangadhar and other leaders spoke on the occasion.
