Awards given to mark SV Ranga Rao Birth Anniversary

Vijayawada: On the occasion of 100th birthday celebrations of legendary artiste SV Ranga Rao, Seeram Subrahmanyam has been awarded with Life Achievement Award. 

The award was presented to him at a function organised jointly by Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Sri Krishnadevaraya Kala Peetham at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College here on Tuesday.

Seeram Subrahmanyam was nominated to receive this award for his exemplary services to promote music and dance for the last three decades. 

He started Vijayawada Music Academy and also Vijayawada Cultural Academy to promote fine arts. Subrahmanyam also associated with main cultural organizations of the city directly or indirectly.

The organisers also presented awards to the artistes Dr PVN Krishna, Pilla Prasad, Vemuri Nageswara Sarma, Gagotri Sayi, Saroja, Damodara Ganapathi Rao, Mancham Venaktaramana, and Bhaskara Rao for their services to fine arts.

The chief guest of the function and MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao said that there was no replacement for SV Ranga Rao. He also added that Ranga Rao acclaimed by the audience for his modulation and expressions.

Gummadi Gopala Krishna, chairman of AP Nataka Academy mentioned that the action of SV Ranga Rao was highly appreciated by the audience. He also said that SV Ranga Rao was the only artiste who received complements from the audience of Japan and Indonesia.

Kalpeetham president Galla Subrahmanyam and others were also participated.

The event also included cultural items like dance and a piece of mythological drama from Sri Krishna Rayabaram.
