Nellore: Members of the AP Revenue Services Association and the District Gazetted Officers Association went on mass leave here on Friday, demanding the Sarvepalli MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy to tender an unconditional apology to District Collector R Mutyala Raju.

It may be recalled that YSRCP legislator had criticised working style of the Collector and made comments against him for obeying directions of the ruling party. The employees’ associations objected to the remarks of MLA and warned that they would go on mass leave. As part of the protest, some employees went on mass leave extending their solidarity to the Collector.

Ninety-eight per cent of employees working in the Collectorate were on leave. Meanwhile, another revenue association in the district had not participated in the protest and worked on Friday. Further, MLC and TDP District President Beeda Ravichandra said Collector Muthyala Raju, who is from an ordinary family, is committed to serve the people. He also said Govardhan Reddy has no moral right to criticise honesty of the Collector.

AP Revenue Services Association staged continuous protests for last two days against the Sarvepalli MLA demanding him to apologise for his remarks against the Collector. Teachers and employees of other departments have not participated in the protest and they worked as usual.

Further, Additional Joint Collector A Kamala Kumari said that they had planned one day protest on Friday. There were no plans to take the movement forward till the legislator tenders an apology, she added.
