1.3 cr for desilting city canals: Mayor Sk Abdul Aziz

Nellore: Mayor Sk Abdul Aziz said they had completed 70 per cent of works related to desilting drainage canals in the corporation limits with Rs 1.30 crore. 

The Mayor reviewed with corporation officials at his chambers here on Saturday over the measures to be taken by the civic body during rainy season. 

Speaking at the meeting, he said they were using latest machinery to remove silt from the drainage canals for free flow of water and added they would also take up a special drive to clear mosquito menace. 

Mayor said they would deploy 110 sanitation staff to clean the canals, spraying oil balls and using fogging machines in all divisions to prevent spread of viral fevers during monsoon. 

Abdul Aziz explained that they would allocate two small machines for each division in the city and another one would be allocated for all wards additionally if necessary. 

He appealed to people to maintain hygienic conditions in their surroundings for preventing seasonal diseases. 

Municipal Commissioner S Alim Basha, Corporators N Mallikarjuna Yadav, Rajanaidu, Penchala Naidu, Prasanth Kiran and Health Officer Dr Subbaraju were present.
