Bandh gets poor response in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The Bharath Bandh called by the Congress, Left and ruling TDP except BJP and YSRCP received poor response in Srikakulam district on Monday. 

The bandh was organised protesting the hike in fuel prices and failure of the BJP government in fulfilling the poll promises. Except closure of private schools and colleges, all other activities were run as usual across the district. 

Government schools, colleges, offices worked as usual, shops and commercial establishments done their activities without disturbance, banks remained open, cinema halls run shows as usual and petrol bunks remained open. 

APSRTC run its services as usual across the district and leaders of Congress, Jana Sena and Left parties were arrested by the police when they tried to prevent RTC buses.

TDP leaders observed silent protests with low number of functionaries in all segments. Congress district unit president Dola Jaganmohan Rao, Srikakulam segment in-charge Chowdari Sateesh, party leaders Ratnala Narasimha Murthy and others were arrested by the police. 

Left party leaders S Narasimhulu and B Krishna Murthy were also detained by the  police. CITU workers observed bandh on National Highway 16 from Chilakapalem to Ranastalam under the aegis of CITU district general secretary Duppala Govinda Rao. 

Jana Sena leaders were arrested by the police in Srikakulam. Speaking on the occasion, the leaders flayed the BJP government’s failure in containing fuel prices, depreciation of rupee value against the US dollar and collapsing of financial system with implementing of wrong decisions such as demonetisation.
