Vijayawada: The members of Tax Payers Association (TPA) has alleged that the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is issuing notices to residents and the residents staying in apartments under the VMC limits to process the bio-degradable waste (BDW) into manure without disposing it to the garbage collectors.

In this regard, the TPA organised a press meet on Monday, terming the notices as unconstitutional.

Addressing the media, TPA secretary MV Anjaneyulu said that the TPA opposes the notices of the VMC as the VMC was denying the basic duty of collecting the garbage from residences according to the Constitution.

He said that storing of the BDW in the house would produce foul smell, besides being breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies.

He said that the VMC was promoting Swatch Bharat and cleaning the streets and forcing the residents to keep the BDW in their houses which was against the basic cause of Swatch Bharat.

He recalled that the VMC was collecting Property Taxes in various forms. However, under Conservancy tax component, the cleanliness and the garbage cleaning was included.

He said that when residents were paying various taxes, how could the VMC deny collecting the wet household waste, which was totally wrong.

He further said that the VMC was indirectly collecting the charges for lying drainage pipelines and further collecting donation for giving new drainage connection.

Anjaneyulu said that for toilet maintenance, the VMC was collecting Rs 30 to Rs 75 each.

Even after collecting various taxes, the VMC denying collection of BDW was totally wrong and the TPA strongly opposing it, he added.
