Strive to achieve goals in life: Collector to differently abled

Kurnool: District Collector  S Sathyanarayana said that disability is only to limbs but not to mind. People should not sit idle cursing disability, instead with strong will and determination have to strive to achieve something in life. He addressed a meeting in connection with the 59th International Day of Disabled Persons organised at Sunaina Auditorium here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that disability is only physical, but not to the mind. The Central and State governments are creating several opportunities  to disabled persons in various sectors including education and employment.

The State government  sanctioned Rs.1.5 crore to the disabled welfare hostel situated at B Camp. Ramps have been provided at every government offices and educational institutions so that the disabled persons can easily enter the premises. The physically challenged students are also provided callipers, hearing aid machines, tri cycles and others machineries, stated the Collector.

He further said that loans on subsidy ranging from Rs.30000 to Rs. One lakh are being extended to the physically challenged through the concerned corporation.  The state government is also sanctioning Rs.one lakh to the disabled women for marriage purpose. 

President of National Disable Welfare Association, Dr Ramesh requested the government to implement 4 per cent reservation to physically challenged persons at government offices and educational institutions. He also urged the Collector to include the disabled persons as members in hospital development committees. 

Secretary to Legal Services Authority, Srinivasa Rao said the disabled persons occupy around 10 percent of the total population. Assistant Director of Disabled Welfare department, Bhasakar Reddy, District Medical and Health Officer  Prasad, DEO Tehara Sultana, Chief Executive Officer, Sudhakar Reddy, Disabled Association leader, Rajamunemma, Muppasani Rajanna, Anil and others participated. Prior to the programme a rally was taken out in the town.
