Accidental deaths decline in Guntur urban police district

Guntur: There has been significant decrease in accidental deaths this year in Guntur urban police district. The accidental deaths declined to 276 till November-end this year in the district. Last year 284 accidental deaths were registered. In 2015, the number of accidental deaths registered is 330, in 2016  it was reduced to 312.

During this calendar year, 276 accidental deaths reported in Guntur urban police district. Meanwhile, the drunken driving cases increased in Guntur district. Till November-end this year, 4,537 drunken driving cases were booked against drivers and collected a penalty of Rs 64,07,500. In the same period last year, the police booked 4,006 drunken driving cases and collected Rs 55,55,700. In 2015, the police department booked 3,292 drunken driving cases and collected a penalty of Rs 50,15,400, in 2016, the department booked 3,381 cases and collected a penalty of Rs 43,55,400.

The department booked 3,55,037 cases under the MV Act till November-end this year and collected a penalty of Rs 7,46,18,710. During last year, the police booked 2,68,194 cases and collected a penalty of Rs 3,95, 27,488.  Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said the department conducted special drive to check vehicle driving by minors and given counseling to riders and their parents.
