HC Bench in Kurnool opposed

Tirupati: Lawyers of Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore districts are opposing the State government’s decision to set up High Court Bench in Kurnool. They boycotted the court works and staged a protest in front of the court complex here on Monday, demanding that the government should change its decision. It may be noted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had announced few days ago that High Court Bench will be begin soon in Kurnool, as part of political promise.

The main reason for lawyers to oppose the decision was that they have to travel for more than 8 hours to reach Kurnool and attend the cases if Bench was set up. The protesting lawyers want government to set up HC Bench either in Kadapa or Tirupati.

Lawyers have abstained from court hearings in Madanapalle, Chittoor, Srikalahasti, Kuppam, Palamaner and Punganur courts. To intensify their stir, lawyers formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) along with all other bar associations of the district. Tirupati Bar Association has taken the initiative to intensify the movement for achieving the High Court Bench in Tirupati.

Tirupati Bar Association vice-president Patti Konda Murali said that the government should establish the High Court Bench in Tirupati due to availability of infrastructure and better transport connectivity to other districts in Rayalaseema region. Speaking to The Hans India, K Rajesh, member of the Tirupati Bar Association, has stated Tirupati is the right place for establishing HC Bench.
