VMC to campaign for better sanitation
Vijayawada: Municipal Commissioner M Rama Rao said that awareness would be created among citizens on improvement of hygienic conditions and VMC was trying to improve its ranking in the Swachh Survekshan awards.
He said the VMC has bagged 12th rank in the cities in India in Swatch Survekshan. Speaking to media at his chambers on Saturday, the commissioner said the VMC got 1097 points out of 1250 in direct observation and 1067 points in citizen feedback but scored 969 points in services sector.
He said there was a need to create awareness among the people on maintaining clean environs near their homes and particularly not dumping the garbage and waste materials in the side drains.
He said the civic body would improve its ranking by continuing the best practices in solid waste management, garbage lifting and cleaning the roads in the city.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr A Arjuna Rao was also present in the press meet.
