Governor summoned to Delhi on March 5
Hyderabad: With the two Telugu states upping the ante against the NDA government over the latter’s failure in fulfilling the promises, the Centre has summoned Governor ESL Narasimhan to Delhi to review political developments in the two states ahead of the budget session of Parliament beginning on March 5.
The Governor will leave for Delhi on Saturday and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union ministers. He will stay in the national capital for two days. Top sources said the Union Home Ministry has already sought a report on the political developments in Andhra Pradesh, where the ruling TDP, the main opposition YSR Congress and Jana Sena parties launched a tirade against the BJP-led NDA government on granting of long-pending special category status and the release of funds under the special package from the Centre.
The YSR Congress has set a deadline to the Centre on the special status issue till April 5. If no special status is granted by the date, the party threatened that its MPs will quit the Lok Sabha on April 6.
Sources said the Governor will brief the Union government on TRS government’s recent decision to fight against the Centre demanding release of funds for Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, Rs 10,000 crore for Kaleshwaram project, besides the issues of SC categorisation and the fulfillment of promises made to Telangana in the AP Reorganisation Act which include establishment of an AIIMS and a steel plant in the state.
The Centre has also taken serious note of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s ‘objectionable’ remark on the Prime Minister. All these issues will come for a discussion in the Governor's meeting with the Centre.
The Centre has already called a meeting of the Telangana and AP Chief Secretaries to review the implementation of the promises made under the bifurcation Act on March 5. Ahead of the meeting, the Governor of the two states will explain to the Union government the most important promises which they want the Centre to address.
