Dignitaries attend awareness prog on EVM functioning

Khammam: To remove certain doubts of the people about whom they are voting though EVMs, specially designed VV PATS will be used in the upcoming Assembly elections, informed District Collector RV Karnan here on Thursday.

An awareness programme was held for the advocates, media persons, police personnel, non-gazetted staff members and women groups about the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs at the Technical Training and Development Centre in Khammam.

The District Chief Justice M Lakshman, First Additional Judge S K Rehana, SC,ST Special Judge Venkataramana attended as special guests and inspected the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs.

Speaking on the occasion, District Chief Justice M Lakshman said, the EVMs and VV PATs are designed using modern and advanced technology through which a voter can see the details of his voting on the machine for a period of seven seconds. By seeing to whom the voter has voted for, his confidence level will increase, he added.

The District Collector said awareness programmes will be conducted in all polling stations for removing doubts and build up confidence among the people about the voting process. The Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer M Nagesh, DRDA Project Officer Indumati and District Employment Officer Sri Ram among others were present on the occasion.
