Campaign for final phase of local polls concludes

Tandur: The campaign for the final phase of ZPTC and MPTC elections in the district ended on Wednesday. The final phase of the Parishad elections will be held on May 10.

Some of the candidates who filed nominations from April 26 to 28 were withdrawn on 2nd of this month. In total, 149 people are remained. Of these, 133 candidates are in the fray for 53 MPTC seats. For the four ZPTC seats, 16 are in the fray. From the day of the allotment of the symbols, the candidates went to the villages for campaign.

Candidates from the TRS and Congress are contesting all the seats in the Tandoor division. BJP, TDP and Independent candidates are competing in limited seats. All the candidates have done their level of campaign. Former minister Mahender Reddy, ZP Chairperson Sunitha Reddy and leaders in the town of Tandur, went to the villages and campaigning for the TRS Candidates.

The Congress leaders in the constituency along with Tandur Municipal Chairperson Sunita, along with MLA Rohit Reddy and Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy have been campaigning for the victory of Congress party candidates. Main leaders of the BJP held campaign for the victory of their candidates. Independents and TDP candidates have been campaigning on their own.

The candidates who conducted a campaign till Tuesday night arranged rallies in the villages from morning to evening on the last day. Activists campaigned for the last time in favour of party candidates in the streets.

TRS once again wants to prove its grip in these elections. The pink party bagged MPP positions in Tandur, Yalal, Basheerabad and Peddemul in the elections that took place five years ago. And also, TRS bagged ZPTCs of Tandur and Yalal.

The Congress has won the ZPTCs of Peddemul and Basheerabad. However, both the ZPTCs joined the TRS. Currently MPPs and MPTCs of TRS are representing the four mandals. TRS is planning to defend the situation.

The Congress is campaigning with the aim of creating history and winning the most seats in the Parishad elections. The party won one seat in the last assembly elections. In the 143 panchayat elections, party-backed candidates won just 35 seats only. However, in the Parishad elections, the Congress ranks worked a wide range of campaigns to bring positive results.

As the election campaign was completed on Wednesday evening, the candidates are allegedly making arrangements to woo voters on the same night. Some of these candidates have already procured alcohol and stored in secret areas. Credible information that they arranged currency for distribution.
