Make Nizamabad leprosy-free district: Joint Collector Venkateshwarlu
Nizamabad: Joint Collector Venkateshwarlu called upon everyone to work hard to make Nizamabad a non-leprosy district as it is possible to eradicate leprosy totally.
Marking the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, District Medical and Health department organised National Leprosy fortnight programme at new Ambedkar Bhavan here on Thursday.
The Joint Collector, who was the chief guest, said the people should not discriminate against leprosy patients but should treat them with love and affection. JC said leprosy is like any other disease which people get and leprosy is completely curable and no one should be afraid of it. People can get rid of the disease if they found out the symptoms early and gets treatment immediately. Those suffering with leprosy should not be ill-treated, which may make them depressed.
He suggested the patients suffering with leprosy to contact the doctors immediately and should undergo long term treatment and medication until the disease is cured totally.
All the participants observed two minutes silence on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He administered a pledge with the participants that they will not show discriminate against leprosy patients.
Later he presented citation certificate to the Best service volunteers. Blankets distributed to patients suffering with leprosy. District Medical and Health Officer Sudarshan, Medical College Principal Indira, MEPMA PD Ramu, CPO Sri Ram, District Immunisation Officer Indira, ASHA Workers and others were present.
