Release of mess bills for SC, ST students demanded in Basheerbagh

Basheerbagh: The Dalits' Rights Protection Committee has demanded immediate release of the mess bills and scholarships of SC and ST students. Committee founder-president Raj Kumar raised the demand at a press conference, while pointing out that the SC and the ST students pursuing college educations were being forced to discontinue because of their inability to pay fees.

Kumar criticised closure of government schools mostly affecting poor students and alleged privatisation of education and health services. He charged that the SC/ST Plan funds were being diverted and that the SC, ST (Atrocities) Prevention Act was being weakened by the government itself. He claimed that the government was also neglecting uplift of SCs, STs, while demanding publication of a white paper on his charges. Those present at the press conference included vice-president Vijay Kumar, general secretary Narsing Rao, committee representatives Durgesh, Suresh, Bhaskar.
