Demanding HC in Kurnool, JAC leaders lay siege to leaders houses
Kurnool: Demanding establishment of High Court in Kurnool and shifting of state capital to Rayalaseema region, activists of Rayalaseema students Joint Action Committee (JAC) laid siege to the houses of MLAs and MPs including Ministers in Kurnool district on Saturday coinciding with the signing of Sri Bagh Pact in 1937.
The houses of Finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and Labour Welfare Minister Gummanur Jayaram at Alur among others were laid siege, said JAC leader Sreeramulu. Sriramulu said that Sribagh Pact is an agreement made between the political leaders of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions during the separate Andhra on 16th November 1937.
If State capital is located in Coastal region, High Court should be established in Rayalaseema and vice versa, the pact says. Presently, the state capital and high court are located in coastal region, he said.
The JAC leaders said that Nandyal MLA Silpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy sympathized with their cause and raised Rayalaseema Zindababad slogan. Banaganapalle MLA Katasani Rami Reddy house could not be reached as police arrested them before proceeding to his house.
Allagadda, Kurnool MLAs were out of station. Kodumur MLA Dr Sudhakar expressed sympathies with the agitators. Nandyal MP Pocha Bramhananda Reddy and Kurnool MP Dr Sanjeev Kumar houses were also raided.
