GHMC teams put on round-the-clock alert

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore said on Tuesday night that the GHMC control room had received a total of 95 complaints regarding the damage caused by heavy winds accompanied by rains across the city. GHMC received 85 complaints reporting the uprooted trees in the city. On receipt of complaint, the Disaster Response Team swung into action and cleared the uprooted trees and branches in many areas.

GHMC Disaster Response Force also cleared the trees lying on the city roads and highways to restore regular traffic flow. Rescue groups also cleared water stagnations in eight low-lying areas of the city, the corporation said. There are at present 8 disaster rescue teams comprising 200 members taking up restoration operations in different parts of the city.

Vishwajith Kampati, Director of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management, GHMC, tweeted on his official twitter handle on Tuesday night that "DRF teams are attending to emergencies. Numerous trees fell, structures collapsed and water stagnations being handled. We are working with the target of attending all calls by first light."

A review meeting was held on the engineering works at Khairtabad Zonal Office on Tuesday. The Commissioner ordered the engineering officers to complete all the repair works of drainages in view of the upcoming monsoon by May 25. He also ordered road maintenance works wherever necessary and filling up of potholes by May-end.
