Proper drainage system will be my top priority says Jangam Swetha

Hyderabad: A first-time contestant, Jangam Swetha elected from 38 Ward (IS Sadan) in the recent GHMC elections, wishes to approach people's problems in a systematic manner before solving them. Swetha says that people have brought to her notice several issues during the election campaign. The division has about 34 colonies with four slums which are yet to receive fruits of development, and even basic infrastructure is lacking. The residents across colonies, slums and posh localities complained to her about bad drainage system. The overflowing drains are giving jitters to people.

The situation turns bad to worse during rainy season. This needs to be addressed on priority, she adds. "Residents of colonies complained about foul smell due to non-maintenance of proper sanitation. They highlighted the need for installation of CCTVs, while citing safety issues in the area. All these will be addressed."

The corporator-elect says people are angry about the official indifference to repair roads damaged during the recent unseasonal rains. They want roads improved in colonies.

Referring to slum areas, the residents bemoan lack of basic infrastructure. Drainage and streetlights are most sought to which the civic body should respond on a priority basis. Regarding housing, the she says "people are not showing much interest in double-bedroom houses, as they have doubts about maintenance of sanitation. Also, elders would not be able to walk up all the floors, if the government constructs multi-storeyed apartments," she pointed out.

However, before her swearing-in, she wants to take stock of issues, "I am gathering information on problems facing the division. Once I have a complete picture, I will be able to discuss each issue with the authorities concerned or those in the party before jumping into action," she adds.
