Move to close down govt schools draws protests

Musheerabad: President of BC Welfare Association R Krishnaiah on Wednesday warned the state government not to close government schools on pretext of rationalisation. He said that the government was preparing to close as many as 4,000 government schools on the pretext of rationalization. He was speaking at a meeting held by selected teachers' association here at BC Bhavan on Wednesday.

R Krishnaiah, who was the chief guest of the meeting, said that it was improper to shut down schools on the pretext of lack of students. He advised the government to take necessary measures to attract more students to government schools in order to increase the strength. He warned of intense agitation if schools are closed.

Krishnaiah said that vacant teacher posts were not filled since last eight years and parents therefore preferred to send their children to private schools as there were no teachers in most schools. While as many as 50,000 teacher posts were vacant, the government gave notification to fill only 8,792 posts two years ago, but appointment orders were not given so far, he criticised.

The association expressed its happiness over the recent government decision to issue GO for the recruitment of the selected teachers. Later, the members of the association felicitated R Krishnaiah who extended his support to their struggle against government.
