Awareness rally on wearing helmet, seat belts held
Srikakulam: Wearing helmet while riding a bike and tying seat belt for drivers of four-wheeler are must for our own safety, said District Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy and Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr C M Trivikrama Varma.
They organised an awareness rally on helmet wearing and seat belt for car drivers here on Monday. The bike rally started at Government Degree College for Men and continued till Seven Roads junction. On the occasion, the Collector appealed riders not to feel burden for carrying and wearing helmet and it is essential for our own safety and to prevent fatal accidents.
With all precautionary measures, we have reduced fatal accidents from 80 to 20 per month, said SP Trivikrama Varma. Government is spending crores of rupees on road safety and people should aware about it and need to take precaution to save their own lives and protection of their dependents, they appealed.
The Collector directed the officials concerned to impose penalty on violation of helmet and seat belt rule. For not wearing helmet, the penalty is Rs 800 and for seat belt Rs1,000. If the bike rider or vehicle driver will not change their attitude, then their driving licences will be suspended for six months period, they said.
Even then the rider or driver continue the same attitude, driving licences will be cancelled permanently, collector explained. Deputy Transport Commissioner Ch Dridevi, DRDA project director G C Kishore Kumar, police officials and district officers attended the meeting.
