Down Syndrome kids need special care, says Collector

Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana said the children, who are suffering with Down Syndrome disease, need special care as they are born with genetic disorder. He gave a call for people to come forward for infusing confidence among the syndrome affected kids.

The Collector participated in a programme organised on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day at Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kurnool on Wednesday. He also presented prizes to the children and patted them with appreciation. 

Addressing the gathering, the Collector said that genetically affected children should not be neglected. “Parents and the voluntary organisations have to pay more attention towards them as they are innocent,” he stated, adding that the government has been extending a helping hand through Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme.

Later, Satyanarayana has visited the wards where the Down Syndrome affected children are kept and inspected the drawings drawn by them. On the occasion, the Collector also inaugurated latest emergency ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound machines at the hospital. He stated the government has sanctioned latest machines with an aim to extend quality treatment on par with corporate hospitals for poor at general hospital free of cost.

He further said that the district administration is also planning to renovate the Radiology department by replacing the existing equipment with new ones worth Rs 5 crore. Later he inspected the treatment being given by the latest machines. District Medical and Health Officer Prasad; Medical College Principal GV Ram Prasad; Superintendent Chandrasekhar; RDO Hussain Saheb and voluntary organisation representatives participated in the programme.
