Gov urged to protect Autonagar from inundation
Amaravati: MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao urged the government to take steps to protect the colonies at Auto Nagar in Vijayawada from inundation. He brought the issue to the notice of the government regarding the inundation threat to the residences at Auto Nagar.
Participating in the Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, he said that the owners of the colonies are forced to vacate the houses during monsoon every year. He said that several colonies have been facing the problem for the past 15 years.
The Congress government neglected the development of colonies at Auto Nagar in its 10-year tenure. He also said that every house at APIIC Colony in Auto Nagar have 10 to 20 square feet government’s vacant site. He said that residents could develop the vacant sites if the sites are regularised.
Minister P Narayana assured the MLA on the protection plans for residents of Auto Nagar. He said the entire Auto Nagar was low-lying area. The government has plans to sink a well to divert water which would be pumped to Guntu Tippa drain, he said. The government would pursue the issue to regularise the vacant sites, he said.
MLA Modugula Venugopala Reddy also asked the government to expand Peekala Vaagu to avoid inundation threat to Guntur city. He said that the vaagu flow area was encroached.
