`50 lakh to be spent on new chariot

Rajamahendravaram: Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy temple management is initiating steps to make a new chariot for the Lord with teakwood at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh with the help of donors.

According to the temple public relations officer, Tula Ramudu, a devotee by name G Satyanarayana Murthi of Gokavaram came forward to donate an amount of Rs 25 lakh to purchase teakwood to the chariot.

Many other devotees have been coming forward to donate an amount of Rs 30 lakh for the proposed chariot. The chariot would be made ready by next May in connection with the Kalyanam of the lord.  

The height of the chariot would be about 27 feet and the new chariot would be made with attractive design. The existing chariot was in use for many years.

Santhi Kalyanam would be performed on June 9 and 10 at AP Bhavan in New Delhi under the aegis of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam. 

As part of the programme, Satyanarayana Vratam would be performed on June 9 followed by Santi Kalyanam on June 10, he added.
