Inclusion of Polavaram in school textbooks demanded

Chittoor: Minister N Amaranatha Reddy has assured elected representatives of taking up the issue of including Polavaram Project as a lesson in the government textbooks at high school-level. 

Participating as a chief guest for the Zilla Parishad (ZP) general body meeting at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Saturday, the Minister informed the members that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has accorded high priority for the construction of Polavaram and new capital Amaravati and treating them as his two eyes. 

He said young generation of the state should know the importance of Polavaram Project. However, YSRCP Puthalapattu MLA Dr Sunil suggested to the government to focus on completing the Polavaram and take a decision later on including the project in the school text books. 

Responding to a question raised by a member, Reddy said the government would take immediate measures for protecting the interests of mango farmers. In the meeting, certain members have alleged that officials were not cooperating with them. 

The Minister directed the district officials to be accessible for the elected representatives. MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy has slammed the officials of the Education department for not distributing cycles and uniforms to girl students in government schools. 

He demanded the government to cancel the Isha Vidhya Project as it has failed in the district. TDP MLCs B N Rajasimhulu and G Srinivasulu, YSRCP MLA Desai Thippa Reddy, ZP Chairperson Girvani, Joint Collector P S Girisha, ZP CEO Ravi Naidu Babu, ZPTC members and
district officials were present.
