Quit India Day celebrated under the ageis of Forum for Better Bapatla

Bapatla: Forum for Better Bapatla secretary PC Sai Babu said that the year 1942 was a momentous one in the history of the Indian National Congress and added that it was the final stage in the struggle. 

Quit India Day was celebrated here on Sunday under the ageis of Forum for Better Bapatla. A plaque with the names of freedom-fighters erected in mandal office was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great leaders. 

He reminded that the movement took a violent turn and people were angry and ready for reaction. Riots broke out in different towns, including Bapatla and added that  Bapatla played a notable part in the Quit India Movement. 

Angry mobs attacked railway stations and destroyed the equipment. People also attacked the Sub Court. One freedom-fighter sat in the Sub-Judge's chair and declared that Bapatla was a free and independent town.

Senior citizens N Koteswara Rao, S Venkateswarlu, Ch Subba Rao, S Venkateswara Rao, G Udayasankar, B Nageswarra Rao and others participated.
