Eluru: Seeking government control over liquor, the All India Democratic Women’s Association began Poru Yatra at Akiveedu in West Godavari district on Monday.AIDWA senior leader M Saviitramma flagged off the yatra.

Speaking on the occasion, the association district unit secretary Kalyani criticised the government for encouraging liquor sales by ignoring its election promise of controlling the liquor flow.

She said that it was shame on the part of the government to treat liquor as main source of revenue to run the government. She said liquor was the root cause of domestic violence and atrocities on women. The government had miserably failed to stop crimes against women.

She informed that the yatra would cover various parts of the  district and reach Narsapur on December 3. A dharna would be conducted in front of Sub-Collector office on the same day, she added.
