Govt urged to extend 8,000 per acre scheme to all farmers

Khammam: CPM district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao has demanded the government to implement the newly-introduced scheme of sanctioning Rs 8,000 per acre for cultivating two crops to every farmer of the State.

Speaking at a general body meeting held with party representatives, under the leadership of Bhukya Veerabhadram, at Sundarayya Bhavan in Khammam on Tuesday, Nunna said around 58 lakh farmers in the State were totally dependent on cultivation. Of the 58 lakh, nearly 20 lakh were tenant farmers, 10 lakh were Podu land farmers and 22 lakh were cultivating Enaam (gifted) lands.

Instead of implementing the scheme to all farmers, the government was trying to sanction the amount of Rs 8,000 under scheme to those farmers who had pattas on their name and enrolled in revenue records, due to which many farmers may not be eligible for the scheme, he alleged.

“Why the government is sanctioning the amount to owners of the land who gave the land on lease instead of implementing the scheme to farmers who were cultivating the land. What is the use of introducing such a scheme which will not benefit the eligible farmers?” he questioned.

If the government does not implement the scheme to the farmers who are cultivating the tenant, podu and Enaam lands, the CPM party would take up the movement in favour of farmers and teach the government a fitting lesson, he warned.
