Hyderabad: The Confederation of Telugu Regional Malayalee Association (CTRMA) organised Kerala flood victims fund camp at Ravindra Bharathi here on Sunday. Housing and Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy launched the camp as hundreds of citizens from across the city poured into the cultural centre.

Viswanath, one of the organising committee members said, “The response was good, much more than we expected. We expected to raise Rs 25 lakh worth material but it would be much more.” By 7 pm on Sunday, 10 truckloads of relief material was sent to Somajiguda. The material was separated and boarded into the vehicles which were taken to Kerala. Considering the situation, it would take four- five days for the relief to reach, added Vishwanath.

Such was the response that the organisers found it difficult to manage the crowd and a lot of material lay scattered. “We need more volunteers than relief material. Tonnes of rice bags, sacks full of clothes were scattered at Ravindra Bharathi,” said an organiser.

“Since the relief material was in surplus, we were finding difficulty in managing the logistics,” said another organising member, Adarsh. Indrakaran Reddy made a fervent appeal to people, industrialists and businessmen to help generously the flood victims of Kerala.

He added that there was an immediate need to provide all help to the victims who were being rescued using boats and other material. More than 20,000 people were making a painful living in Chalakudy, Pathanamthitta and Chengannur districts in Kerala, he added.
