Vanasthalipuram: The Ghar ki Biryani contest was not just a cooking competition in Green Meadows. Housewives were very sportive and also showcased their talents like singing anddancing. The event organised by Hans India reached ninth gated community, bringing to fore the talent of housewives. Chef Karunakar from the Regency College of Hotel Management started the event by preparing a quick snack Spinach-Panner wrap. He also shared cooking tips with the participants.

“Do not soak the rice before cooking Biryani. Just wash it in the water and boil it immediately for good results,” he advised. The contest for the best Biryani held in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections drew a good number of participants. The joyous coming together of women folk enlivened the celebratory event. It also gave them a chance to bond with each other.

“We are thankful to Hans India and all other sponsors and our community management for organising such an event where we are given a chance to showcase our talent in cooking. I also got an opportunity to learn different types of Biryani,” said Dr Sujani Byri.“Such events are very much necessary for housewives. We all stay in the same gated community but meet very rarely. Today we all came together to make this event successful.

Apart from cooking, we got an opportunity to sing and dance together after a long time,” said D Geetha. After tasting all the Biryanis, Karunakar selected the winners. It was indeed a difficult task for him, he confessed. Madhavi won the contest with her leafy vegetable Biryani, while Ch Rachitha made Chicken Dum Biryani which won her laurels.

“I’m very happy to win the competition. We housewives usually sit at home and try different recipes and today we are getting recognized for that. Competitions like this are very much necessary to bring out our talent. All the participants took this as a friendly competition.  I am so happy that we all gathered and spent some quality time today despite our busy schedules,” said Ch Rachitha.

“I used leafy vegetables to make Biryani. Usually children don’t like leafy vegetables, so if we make Biryani with them, it will be both tasty and healthy for them,” said Madhavi.
Sai Reddy, General Manager, Hans India, congratulated all the participants. “We choose the winner because we have to, but every participant here is a winner,” he said appreciatively of the participants.
