Collector Devasena asks sarpanches to strive for village uplift

Ramagundam: Sarpanches must strive hard in leading the villages towards development, advised District Collector Devasena here on Tuesday. The Collector was addressing the Atmeeya Sabha organised to felicitate the newly elected sarpanches and upa-sarpanches of village panchayats of Palakurthi, Anthargam and Ramagundam mandals at a private function hall in Ramagundam.

The Collector said that the development of villages depends highly on the functioning of sarpanches and their standards. Irrespective of politics and political parties and the newly elected sarpanches must strive hard for the development of the villages involving the people's participation, she said.

Ibrahimpur village panchayat of Siddipet district and Gangdevarapalli village panchayat of Warangal district are model villages in the State. Taking inspiration from these two villages, the sarpanches must work hard to lead their villages towards development, she added.

A two-day training programme was organised for the newly elected sarpanches and upa-sarpanches to create awareness about the new Panchayat Raj Act, duties of sarpanches and their responsibilities.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar recently issued orders to take perfect steps for protecting the forests and to increase the green cover. Sarpanches must play key role protection of forest and increasing the green cover in their respective villages along with conducting 'Vanasandarshan' programmes every 15 days.

For providing hygienic and low-cost sanitary napkins to all women folks during their menstrual cycle, a sanitary napkin producing centre was established in the name of 'Sabala' and is producing low-cost sanitary napkins for just Rs3 with the help of the members of Self Help Groups.

The sarpanches must create awareness among the women folks of their respective villages to use them for preventing certain problems of usage of unhygienic methods during menstrual cycle. 

Later, the newly elected sarpanches and upa-sarpanches were felicitated with handloom clothes by district Collector Devasena. The Ramagundam ZPTC Kandula Sandhya Rani, MPP Adepu Rajesham, sarpanches, upa-sarpanches, MPTC's, ward members and concerned officials and others were present.
