Awareness meet held on safety of newborns in Vidyanagar

Vidyanagar: An awareness training program on protection of newborns was organised jointly by Indian Academy of Pediatrics and National Neonatology Forum at NeoBBC Hospital here. As part of the session, Professor JV Rao from Nilofer Children's Hospital and Alivelu Kodandaram gave practical demonstration to nurses of the hospital on methods to save babies within the first three minutes of their birth using plastic toys.

Later speaking to media, along with the hospital director Dr Rangaiah, Professor JV Rao and Alivelu Kodandaram said that many infants die or face many issues due to lack of proper awareness on the measures to be taken to save newborns in the first three minutes. The first minute of the baby, called as golden minute, is most crucial period and the first cry of baby within this period is essential. They explained various measures to be taken if baby does not cry during the golden minute. Keeping the labour room warm, washing hands for two minutes in order to prevent babies from getting infected and other precautions to be taken during the delivery are explained.
