Update: 2019-10-24 06:28 IST

Hyderabad: The results of the byelection to Huzurnagar Assembly constituency will be announced on Thursday. While the outcome of the bypoll results is all set to warm up state politics again ahead of municipal elections, the Election Commission has made all arrangements for counting of votes in Suryapet where the EVMs were kept in strong rooms. The total voter turnout in the byelections held on October 21 was 85 per cent.

The EC officials said that counting of votes will begin at 8 am. All measures, including installation of CC cameras for 24-hour live coverage and continuous surveillance were made at the counting centre.

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, the VVPATS will be counted along with polled votes in the EVMs, officials said.

The ruling TRS is confident of winning the seat as all exit polls predicted that the Congress will lose.

The Huzurnagar assembly segment has been considered as Congress stronghold led by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy who won the seat for three consecutive terms since 2009.

After he elected MP, the Congress fielded his wife Uttam Padvathi Reddy in the byelections. TRS candidate S Saidi Reddy, who lost the 2018 elections, was testing the waters again in the byelections.

Leaders said that the bypoll outcome will give a big boost to the winning parties to fight the upcoming municipal elections to be held in a month or two.

Congress leaders have put all-out efforts to win the seat and TRS deployed a contingent of ministers and MLAs to wrest the seat from Congress in the high voltage poll campaign held for two weeks before voting.
