Hyderabad: Threat of vector-borne diseases looming
Gachibowli, ward no 105 is the business hub of Hyderabad, a home for many business parks and tech companies. Though most of the top tech companies, top lounge bars, international restaurants and high rises, as we go little deep into the division the true face of the suburb emerges with a lot of incomplete works and pending works. Pipeline works, manhole covers, dug up roads uncovered on the major roads can be seen in the true face of Gachibowli division.
The residents vent ire over the several civic works which have been left pending and many are yet to start. Moreover, in few areas of Gachibowli like Pragathi Nagar, Nagarjuna Residency and others the residents are suffering due to the irregular supply of drinking water. Sharadha, resident of Gachibowli, pointed out that many people in their colony had fallen sick because of overflowing sewage in front of their houses, the stagnant drain water has become a breeding ground for vector-borne diseases. "Yet no official from the health and entomology department has bothered to visit the colony for taking remedial steps," she added. While expressing surprise over the indifference attitude of local officials and public representatives to the issues, people said that they were unable to decide whom to approach for the resolution of their grievances. The residents fear an outbreak of diseases like dengue, malaria and typhoid.
Internal streets of Gachibowli are badly damaged following the recent heavy rains. As the roads were not laid properly the commuters had to go through a back-breaking experience while commuting on the damaged roads.
"The residents of Pragathi Nivas are facing parking issues as people from different areas just come and park their vehicles for the day. We suffer because we are unable to park our own vehicles. Though there is a 'No Parking' but no one bothers about it.," said Krishna Koundinya, Physician, Gachibowli.
Candidates in the fray K Sai Baba from TRS, Gangadhar Reddy from BJP, Bharath Kumar from INC, R Raju from DBP, Chandra Mouli and Praveen Kumar Goud as independent candidates are trying their luck in the GHMC elections for Gachibowli Division.
