Pigs menace continues to be major concern

New Venkatashwara Nagar: Stray pigs in large numbers have been roaming freely in the roads of colony here for the seven months, keeping the residents on the edge, as their ubiquitous presence amidst rise in vector-borne diseases is a major concern.

The pigs are multiplying and the number is growing. The animals from the filthy surroundings are entering residential areas. The slush they usually spread around is adding to the breeding of flees, mosquitoes.

Residents are already worried, due to rise in seasonal fevers like dengue and malaria. And the sight of pigs is rankling them no end. A three-year old kid, Sukumar, was infected with dengue fever and hospitalised recently. His mother Lakshmi demanded that officials take necessary action regarding rampant mosquito breeding and roaming of pigs in the locality.

She lamented that though this issue was taken to the notice of GHMC officials and also local leaders, no one responded till now. Residents of the colony are appealing to authorities to address the issue at the earliest, otherwise, severe health problems would arise, they apprehend.
